The new catamaran from the French builder features design by a power trio in multihulls
French catamaran specialist Lagoon has recently launched the new Lagoon 55, featuring design and naval architecture by its “power trio” of outstanding names in multihull design: naval architects VPLP, former car designer turned yacht designer Patrick le Quément, and frequent collaborators Nauta Design for the interiors.
The designers have made a special effort on the transom area. With curved steps, they have tried to create the feeling of a more continuous space at the aft deck, even between the two hulls. The idea, according to Marc Van Peteghem of VPLP was to turn the twin transoms into a “privileged place at the water’s edge”, to be part of the overall living space aboard the 55.
Up top, there is a generous lounge area on the flybridge, with seating and sun pads for owner and guests. Twin skylights are built into the roof forward of the mast, and these can be covered with sunpads.
On the main deck, the designers have enlarged the space in the aft cockpit, adding in a food service station, seating for several guests for informal meals and lounges that have a feeling of being connected to the whole beam of the yacht. In fact, the main deck interior and the aft cockpit appear to take up an equal amount of space. Forward, there is a small, C-shaped settee and table for private moments at anchor.
“Large windows and two spectacular skylights in the saloon, the heart of on-board living spaces, were created to bring the outdoors in,” said Massimo Gino of Nauta Design.
For accommodation, buyers can choose cabin layouts that accommodate from eight to 12 people, with more private, owner’s friendly versions offering large cabins and adjoining study.
