Winning images from the annual photo competition
Since 2009, June 8 has been designated by the United Nations as “World Oceans Day”. The event, which is marked around the world, seeks to capture the importance of the ocean and our delicate relationship with it.
The World Oceans Day Photography Competition is a free annual competition, open to all skill levels. The theme for 2020 was “Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean”, with four new categories this year: Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean, Rejuvenation, Digital Ocean Photo Art and Science in Action. Winning images were recognised by the United Nations on June 8 during the United Nations’ virtual event marking World Oceans Day 2020, and will be displayed at exhibitions around the world.
