Thailand Charter Week

Organisers of the upcoming Thailand Charter Week 2023 have confirmed the next event will not take place until 2024, ‘due to unforeseen circumstances’, with dates to be announced shortly.

The third edition of Thailand’s B2B luxury yacht charter showcase had been due to kick off for four days from 16-19 November 2023 in Phuket Yacht Haven Marina.

The Thailand Charter Week was inspired by such events as the Antigua Charter Yacht Show and the MYBA Charter Show in Barcelona. An organising committee of TYBA members runs the event with the participation of leading international charter brokers and other local charter companies.

TYBA organised the first official charter event in 2019, to show available charter yachts to industry professionals. Rather than showing one or two yachts at a time, several companies decided to work together and stage an event before the start of the charter season. This way it would be attractive for local, regional and overseas visitors to come to Phuket and see in a couple of days the best of the charter yachts in one location.

In a statement, event organiser the Thai Yachting Business Association says: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, it was decided by the TYBA board to postpone the 2023 edition of the Thailand Charter Week until 2024.

“This was a difficult decision but was made with the unanimous votes of the TYBA Board Members present at the Board Meeting held on 1 September 2023.

“The board would like to sincerely thank the venue host Phuket Yacht Haven Marina, media sponsors Yacht Style, Luxuo, Palace, Helicam, Greenery Water and other sponsors for their continuous support of the TCW event so far.

“We look forward to once again being able to produce a great and revamped Thailand Charter Week event in 2024, with dates to be announced shortly.”

APB reached out to Ian Hewett, brokerage manager at Derani Yachts and TYBA vice president, for further information on the decision.

“The nature of yacht charter in Thailand has changed due to the influence of Covid and an increased demand from domestic and regional markets,” he says.

“In response to these changed charter requests, the TYBA Board aims to review the show concept, and re-evaluate the focus of the show, before relaunching it in 2024.

“A longer lead-up time will be necessary to prepare for a charter show, which caters to local charter companies’ requirements.”
