Turkish builder Numarine has moved from its range of sleek, sporty yachts to building rugged but luxurious yachts for exploration. Asia has the distances to match the shipyard’s ambitious new 37XP
Numarine, the attention-grabbing superyacht builder from Turkey, is reaching over the horizon. The yard’s growing range of sharp-looking expedition yachts is gathering ever more recognition as owners seek to travel more, do more and see more with their yachts.
The builder’s new stunning flagship is the Numarine 37XP, a 37-metre yacht first shown at the 2021 Cannes Yachting Festival.
During a chat at the 2021 Cannes show with Omer Malaz, owner and founder of Numarine, he noted the trend towards expedition-style yachts, with their range and fuel efficiency being big draws for a new generation of buyers. “The Numarine 37XP combines refined but easily recognisable aesthetics with an ambitiously conceived functionality to deliver a first-class yachting experience,” Malaz said in a recent statement.
Look through the list of Numarine’s long line of yachts, and you can see the change in strategy. From the 2000s, it produced fast yachts of 18 to 32 metres. Then, in 2017, the yard launched its first explorer/expedition yacht: the 32XP. That first yacht in the XP line had a range of 3,000 nautical miles at nine knots, which represented a big departure for a yard that was used to building sleek, speedy yachts.
The designers used freestanding furniture items from brands such as Fendi Casa, Promemoria and Giorgetti

Numarine recruited Milanese design house Hot Lab for the interiors
The 37XP has the same beam as the 32XP, but five extra metres were added forward of the engine room bulkhead, giving more volume for guest and crew accommodation, as well as adding space to the upper deck and sky lounge. The new 37XP has a range of 5,000 nautical miles at 10 knots.
The XP line now boasts five model sizes, from 22 metres up to one that’s 45 metres in length. The 37XP represents the flagship of the XP line and, tellingly, is now the flagship across Numarine lines. What separates Numarine’s XP range from some of its competitors is striking good looks inside and out, which would allow an XP yacht to fit right in at any marina.
The 37XP has a full displacement steel hull combined with a composite superstructure. Numarine worked with Umberto Tagliavini on the naval architecture; Tagliavini is a long-time partner-cum-collaborator with Numarine. Can Yalman, another frequent Numarine collaborator, handled the exteriors, which feature sharp, striking lines.

The helm station
“The lines on the 37XP are a refinement of the robust look of the 32XP, with flowing softer lines that extenuate the longer length and fewer interruptions [to] create a balance between strength and elegance,” says Yalman.
The first 37XP featured an interior by Hot Lab, the Italian design studio that has made a name for itself in ultra-stylish expedition yachts with the tagline “architecture for voyagers”. This is the second Numarine project with the Milan-based studio. Grey, white, beige and brown tones dominate the interior, creating a special atmosphere on board. A lot of natural light fills up the space through huge windows – they are the key feature for the entire XP Series range. The designers used freestanding furniture from brands such as Fendi Casa, Promemoria and Giorgetti.

“We received a few reference images and comments on what the owner wanted. Something more classic than his previous Numarine; richer in terms of details and materials, and this is exactly what we are good at,” said Enrico Lumini, a partner at Hot Lab. “It is simply a modern revision of pure decorative elements and rich materials: ebony, mother of pearl, great quality leather. All of them merged into a balanced and straightforward design.”
The 37XP boasts seven cabins for 14 guests, which makes the design suitable for charter work. The yacht can come with a six-cabin layout to accommodate 12 guests and features a private sky lounge. There is crew accommodation for seven with a captain’s cabin located aft of the pilot house; these elements mean the yacht would also make a good charter yacht.
The yacht has a spacious interior with several social areas. The main deck saloon and cabins enjoy large windows, many stretching from floor to ceiling. On the port side, the large window next to the dining table can be opened for a more expansive view and sense of space.
A fourth 37XP was sold at the 2021 Cannes show and it will be launched in late 2022

The enormous flybridge area
The aft beach club features a bathing platform and an inside lounge sitting right on the water.
The wide-body flybridge is 10 metres long and covers 80 square metres. The huge space offers a hot tub plus full service set-up and plenty of seating. There is even a second helm station, though captains and pilots will probably be happier at the bridge deck helm station, which offers excellent forward views.

The owner’s cabin has exclusive access to the upper aft deck
There is a huge VIP cabin amidships on the main deck and an owner’s suite on the upper deck. The owner’s deck has a direct connection to the exterior terrace via a glass door. That terrace, while underway, is used as a tender storage – with a capacity of nine metres in length. And when the tender is launched, the area may be used for outside sports, sunbathing or parties. Owners can literally invite the party into their cabin, should they wish to do so.
Numarine seems to have hit the sweet spot in the current yachting trend – combining luxury and long range. A fourth 37XP yacht was sold at the 2021 Cannes show and it will be launched in late 2022. Hull number four is to have space for an 8.5-metre tender plus three jet skis. So, the only question left for Numarine is: when will the first of the XP series find its way to Asia?
