Peugeot Design Lab will collaborate with the French yacht builder to design the new high-end Tofinou 9.7 sailing boat

The Latitude 46 shipyard has called on Peugeot Design Lab and architect Michele Molino to create a neo-classical design for their new high-end sailing boat. The designers at Peugeot Design Lab co-designed the bridge layout.

The onboard space, designed for solo and crew sailing, facilitates the movement of skippers. The ergonomic design of the cockpit is ideal for helming the boat. The Tofinou 9.7, measuring 9.75 metres long, was created for daily sea trips. The first two sailing boats will be delivered in La Rochelle in June 2019.

The design office of the Latitude 46 shipyard called on architect Michele Molino and Peugeot to modernise and revitalise the styling of its new sailing boats while keeping the spirit of the Tofinou range. The Tofinou’s signature style is perpetuated through elegant, pure, slight and classic lines emphasised with noble materials: varnish mahogany, stainless steel and chrome.

“We entrusted the production of the boat plans to architect Michele Molino, who designed a more powerful and wider hull which promises an intense and controlled navigation experience. The new hull made it possible to redesign the bridge. We worked hand in hand with Peugeot Design Lab for a sense of modernity, and for the improvement of ergonomics and life on board,” said Christian Iscovici, Director of the Latitude 46 shipyard.

Latitude 46 chose Peugeot Design Lab for its expertise in brand design and industrial design. In the sailing sector, the studio’s designers created the control deck Sea Drive Concept in 2017 as well as the Concept Yacht study (for a 30-metre sailing boat) in 2012.

Peugeot designers drew a balanced, pure and obstacle-free bridge. Its forms and surfaces are simple and elegant. The new generation spirit is lended by this structured, sharp and dynamic draw.

The new equipments of the Tofinou 9.7 have been integrated in the design, so as to facilitate navigational ergonomics and fluidity of the physical movement onboard.

– The cockpit features two control touchscreens facing the helmsperson and protected from splashing. All the controls, including those of the winches, are in hand’s reach
– The design of the cabin roof, in black lacquer and inserted in mahogany, is stylish and modern
– The rear deck is largey opened to the sea, thanks to the wider hull

Two first Tofinou 9.7 sailing boats will be delivered to its initial customers in La Rochelle in June. The new boats adapt to all bodies of water thanks to their keel system, which can be fixed, pivoting or lifting. The general public will get their first look at the new craft on September 18-23 at the Grand Pavois Show in La Rochelle; the boats will then be exhibited from December 7-15 at the Paris International Boat Show.
