Tom Leung, who has two decades of maritime experience, says he is keen to prioritise safety at the marina

Marina manager Tom Leung at LYC
Hong Kong’s Lantau Yacht Club has welcomed a new marina manager to its team.
Tom Leung, who has worked in several maritime services providers and yacht clubs over the past 20 years, joined Hong Kong’s first 5 Gold Anchor marina at the start of the year. He will be responsible for overseeing marina operations at the club, which soft-opened in September 2020.
Ivan Lee, vice president of Lantau Yacht Club (LYC), says he is “delighted” with the appointment.
“LYC’s mission is to offer premium yachting facilities and become the preferred mooring destination and yacht club in Hong Kong. We are delighted to have Tom on board,” says Lee. “Tom has been working in several maritime services providers and yacht clubs, and brought with him a wealth of experience in marina operations and customer services. He is determined to go the extra mile to ensure the safety of the marina and that of our members and their properties.”
Leung says he is keen to prioritise safety at the marina.
“It’s an all-new experience to work at the only world-class marina custom-built for superyachts in Hong Kong,” Leung tells Asia-Pacific Boating. “At LYC, we are working with a group of top-tier customers, very professional captains and crew teams and industry leaders. So, the highest level of attention and services are prerequisites,” he adds. “Never give safety a day off – that’s my motto. Safety is key for a top-notch marina.”
LYC has confirmed a number of service contractors will be stationed at the marina starting from March 2022, to provide yacht care services, maintenance and yacht management services. A chandlery, a water toys shop, a yachting academy and wake surfing classes will also be available.

The LYC Team
The club is aiming to host more industry events in 2022, dependent on covid restrictions. One of the scheduled events for the coming year is the Hong Kong Yacht Show organised by the Hong Kong Boating Industry Association.
“We are also discussing with many yacht brands and dealers [about] hosting exclusive product showcases, brokerage boat shows or yacht owners’ events,” a club spokesperson says. “In addition, when the border restrictions loosen, we expect more cross-border yachting activities among Asian countries. More yachting lovers from China and Asia are expected to come to Hong Kong and LYC will definitely be their top-of-mind marina for transient berthing.”
