Frances and Michael Howorth put the new S6 from Azimut Yachts through its paces to discover a motor yacht intent on leaving its mark in the history of yacht development.
The days when the traditional concept of boating was seen as being a pastime for those who like it wet, wild and somewhat uncomfortable, are being turned on their heads. Italian production boat builder, Azimut Yachts maintains that today’s yacht owners are increasingly expressing their desire to enjoy life on board in spaces that are less formal but never ordinary. Season after season, the builder has been enriching its offering with models that often anticipate unexpressed needs and unformed ideas. It is clearly striving to create designs that express both elegance and comfort, to which it is adding innovation and advanced technology that always seem to be a step ahead of the competition.
It is this innovative Italian flair that keeps customers coming back and it is one of the reasons why boat shows that allow yachts to leave the dock for sea trials are such fun to attend. When it comes to shows, Azimut Yachts never does anything by halves. It often displays fleets of up to 18 boats, allowing for a wonderful opportunity to compare and contrast different craft. Making their world debut at the most recent Cannes Yachting Festival, Azimut had three brand new models among its line-up. It was at Cannes that we got to put the all-new S6 to the test.
