More than 150 athletes participated in the popular wakeboard and wakesurf competition
After being suspended for three years due to covid restrictions, the IWWF Asia Wakefest Series returned to Hong Kong from 21-23 July 2023.
More than 150 local and international athletes participated in the competition, which was divided into two main categories — wakeboard and wakesurf — across men, women and youth segments.
This wakesurf and wakeboard competition took place in Tai Po Waterfront Park, where fans gathered to make their support heard. American boat manufacturer Nautique, as the title sponsor this year, sponsored new Super Air Nautique GS22 and G23 boats for the event.
The competition was intense between the local and international athletes. Dawnee Kanjanapas triumphed in the Open Women Surf section; Kaitlyn Gemma Wong took honours in the Junior Women Skim section; Haruki Komatsu won the Men’s Open Wakeboard section; Jeon Seobeen from South Korea topped the Men’s Junior Wakeboard section; and the Taiwan/Chinese Taipei team cinched the Best Team award.
Nautique is distributed locally by Asia Yachting. In a statement posted after the event, Asia Yachting writes: “We would also like to thank the organiser, Hong Kong Wake Ski Association (HKWSA), supporting staff, volunteers and all the participating athletes. See you all next year!”
Wakefest is held in collaboration with the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (IWWF). The popular wakeboarding championship launched last month, with a kick-off event on Sunday 9 July 2023 in Sai Kung, Hong Kong.
