Azimutt has introduced its newest iteration of the Magellano 60, an adventurous 60-foot crossover that's packed with intelligent features.

The new Magellano 60, which made its debut at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival and which was visited by the Asia-Pacific Boating team, is the only crossover on the market to offer such large spaces without compromising the elegance of the exterior lines. Like an adventurer, the design points toward the horizon with the cockpit, which extends aft, transforming into an infinity terrace overhanging the water.

In 2007, Azimut introduced the crossover of the sea, bringing the Magellano Series to the market. A powerful and evocative name, Magellano sees the charm of trawlers and distant destinations meet a more contemporary style, with refined and elegant Italian design for the first time.

The “crossed” DNA of the series is not only expressed in the aesthetics but also in its aptitude for travel: the Dual Mode semi-planing hull is hybridized for comfortable navigation at low speeds as well as sustained cruising, absorbing the impact of waves and offering the freedom to cruise in a wider range of conditions.

The Magellano 60 elaborates the philosophy of the series, recently renewed by Ken Frievokh, who merged the simple and classic elegance of sailing with the adventurous aesthetics of an explorer designed for long, unrestricted cruises. The new model enhances the series’ key features and is distinguished by stylistic solutions, onboard space and attention to efficiency and environmental impact.

The exteriors bear the iconic signs of the Magellano series: clean and elegant lines, with teak louvres as a signature of discreet and yet immediate architectural charm. On the Magellano 60, however, the clean lines evolve into more contemporary traits, with edges that define the contours of the surfaces, further enhancing the linearity of Frievokh’s hand.

The contemporary thrust of the design culminates at the stern, where the Magellano 60 proposes an irresistible transformation from cockpit to terrace for the first time on a boat of this size. This is a manifestation of Azimut’s drive for greater contact with nature, answering the desires of Magellano owners, who love long stays on board and taking to sea in search of new frontiers.

The cockpit, conceived as a natural extension of the large lounge on the main deck, becomes an ‘Infinity Terrace’ overlooking the water without barriers thanks to a transparent glass parapet. This area is the true heart of life on board, a welcoming, reserved, romantic and fun space throughout of the day. Aspiring to versatility, it’s transformable from lounge area to outdoor dining with a double-headed table complemented by an American bar, a perfect aperitivo spot at sunset.

The interiors of the Magellano 60 express the intentions of the experience – an uninterrupted view of the horizon and a constant dialogue between indoor and outdoor environments – with large, bright spaces, the particularity of a convertible dinette placed next to the full-height glazing, and a privileged, intimate view of the sea.

The concept of the living area, as well as that of the three cabins, envelops generous atmospheres suspended in time while the choice of colours, soft and ton sur ton, complete a perfect picture: the only essence, brushed Cinder oak with warm grey hues, goes well with light lacquers in shades of ivory and white, highlighted by bronze details and the decoration of surfaces in sophisticated Vienna straw.

Exploring new frontiers and getting to know places of pristine nature and crystal clear waters also means trying to reduce emissions. For this reason, the Azimut|Benetti Group R&D office brings the high-efficiency semi-planing Dual Mode hull to the Magellano 60, designed to optimize fuel consumption and emissions, especially at low and medium speeds.

This commitment to respect the environment led the Magellano 60 to be chosen for the first voyage powered by HVOlution, the biofuel produced by Eni Sustainable Mobility with 100% renewable raw materials. The tests carried out by Azimut in June 2023 recorded satisfactory results in terms of compatibility and performance.

Furthermore, the combined effect of the Dual Mode hull and biofuel has made it possible to achieve a reduction in CO2 emissions well-to-wake exceeding -80% compared to a yacht of comparable size powered by fossil diesel, confirming the effectiveness of the path charted by Azimut. The Magellano 60 comfortably cruises at 18 knots and can reach up to 26 knots.
