Heesen Sells Second 50m Aluminium Hybrid Yacht

Heesen announces the sale of YN 19150 Project Electra, the second hybrid yacht in the 5000 aluminium class – a 50m superyacht below 500GT with a shallow draft for cruising anywhere in style, comfort and virtual silence.

Heesen’s hybrid diesel and electric propulsion system offers greater flexibility in power management and improved performance, as well as the rare pleasure of cruising in near-perfect silence with zero vibrations. 

Furthermore, Electra delivers unparalleled fuel efficiency thanks to her ultra-slippery FDHF hull devised by Dutch hydro-dynamicists van Oossanen Naval Architects and seamlessly crafted by Heesen’s in-house welding team.

Ingenious naval architecture combined with clever engineering and meticulous attention to weight reduction make Project Electra one of the most efficient yachts in her class. Her sister-ship Home received several international accolades recognising innovative eco-friendliness, including the Rina Green award presented by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco.

Compared to a traditional diesel engine, the hybrid power and propulsion system is quieter and more fuel-efficient. In addition, it offers significant cost-reductions and flexible power management with four cruising modes. In Hybrid Mode, she can cruise up to 9 knots at noise levels of just 46dB, equivalent to soft rain, with higher manoeuvrability in close quarters.

Economic Mode offers 9-12 knots with main engines on and generators off. Ideal for longer passages, with frugal fuel consumption (at 12 knots the yacht burns 98 litres per hour) and extended generator service life. In the traditional Cruising Mode of 12-15 knots, the diesel engines drive the yacht’s propellers and the generators provide the hotel load.

To achieve the max speed 16.3 knots, in Boost Mode the generator-powered shaft motors are brought into service alongside the main engines to give an extra kick of power.

Dutch designer Frank Laupman of Omega Architects created the highly contemporary exterior and Electra’s radical profile. The nearly vertical bow with spray rails is not only on-trend, it also serves a practical purpose by providing progressive buoyancy when carving through waves, and also means the crew accommodation can be set further forward.

Twelve guests are accommodated in five lower deck suites, with a master stateroom on the main deck forward. The interior design by Cristiano Gatto integrates organic shapes that emphasise the indoor-outdoor connection by way of deep and low furniture.

Electra’s new Owners appointed Sabrina Monte-Carlo boutique to assist with the decoration and detailing of their yacht in a contemporary style and light colour palette.

YN 19150 Project Electra is due for delivery at the end of April following intensive sea trials in the North Sea.
