The Water Revolution Foundation, a superyacht industry NGO, opens registration for the new database
In late November, the Water Revolution Foundation launched a database of sustainable B2B solutions, aimed at the superyacht-building industry. The Foundation is an independent non-profit organisation created by the superyacht industry to help eliminate the industry’s ecological impact on the oceans. The database is to be a reference point for superyacht builders to search and compare verified sustainable industrial solutions.
The Foundation said that sustainable products and services offered by manufacturers will be verified before appearing on the database. The process follows ISO standards and uses a life-cycle analysis approach covering from raw material extraction to end-of-life for the product and can take between one and four months to complete.
French banking giant BNP Paribas is supporting the development of the database. BNP Paribas has a dedicated financing arm for clients buying superyachts. The bank has also become a leader in green bonds and linking its loans to sustainability targets.
“We believe that yachting can make important improvements in efficiency and reduction of greenhouse gases through design and technology. When thinking of the infrastructure required to replace fossil fuels with alternative green energy, it is clear that yachting will be reliant on adopting new technologies, not only for energy efficiency, but also for other environmental impacts such as paints, noise pollution and end of life,” said Olivier Blanchet, head of Jet and Yacht Finance for the bank.
The Water Revolution Foundation has now issued a call for companies to register for the database and begin the process of verifying their green products and services.
Companies offering green products and solutions to the superyacht world can register to begin the verification process here.
The Water Revolution Foundation counts key superyacht builders such as Benetti, Abeking, Damen Yachting, Feadship, Lurssen and Sanlorenzo as partners. The foundation also announced new partners AkzoNobel, a paint supplier, Van Oossanen Naval Architects and DVZ Services, which develops wastewater treatments for the shipping and yachting industries.
