The Riva 88 Florida has to be the ultimate in yacht design, the pinnacle that can be so difficult to achieve – and even harder to maintain.
RIVA IS ONE OF THE ICONIC names in yachting, with a long tradition of building very special yachts for the rich and famous. Therefore creating a new Riva is a major challenge for any designer, who must maintain the exclusivity and very special ethos of the Riva brand. Marco Micheli of Officina Italiana Design has been designing Rivas ever since the Ferretti Group took over this illustrious brand in 2000 and was responsible for the design of the Riva 88 Florida launched this year and on display at the Cannes Yachting Festival (Sept 8-13).
“This is a true Open – the sum of style and function, represented by the Convertible Top. This big open has an aesthetical impact; it is the best toy one could ever dream of… it is a luxurious and sophisticated object, for very rich people,” Micheli says. “As a matter of fact, all three units that Riva has just sold have been acquired by clients who have yachts 60 metres length and who use the Florida as a big ‘tender’.
