It's showtime: The second issue of 2023 explores new models and innovations from countless industry heavyweights set to be unveiled at the upcoming boat shows

Asia-Pacific Boating Autumn/Winter 2023 Issue

Welcome to another issue of Asia-Pacific Boating and one of our favourite issues to produce as we – and many in the global yachting industry – prepare to travel to the major boat shows in France and Monaco, where a huge array of new yachts, services and innovations will be presented.

It’s an exciting time for the industry as a whole. The pandemic offered a huge boost to the yachting scene as owners and charter guests explored closer to home and now the focus will be on maintaining that momentum while employing cutting-edge technology to ever reduce the impacts on the marine environments we all enjoy so much.

In this issue we look at the newest creation of shipbuilder Feadship, Obsidian, which has been a vital test case in the move towards sustainable superyachts and will set the standard for future builds.

We also look at fashion label Oceanr and its ongoing efforts to reduce waste and environmental impact within the garment trade, while award-winning Malaysian underwater photographer Ipah Uid Lynn reminds us of all we are working to protect with her mesmerising images from the world below the waves.

Of course, this issue is also packed with exciting new yacht designs, many of which will be showcased at the major upcoming boat shows. These include the beautiful Prestige F4, Beneteau’s new Oceanis 37.1 sailing yacht, and the ground-breaking Sunreef 88 Ultima catamaran.

We also look at some of the most exciting new models, including Ferretti’s InFYnito 90, the Riva 82 Diva, and the Sanlorenzo 57Steel, and slip aboard the majestic Sea Eagle II, a captivating sailing superyacht and a passion project for its billionaire owner.

As you prepare for show season, we preview Cannes, Monaco and Abu Dhabi’s yachting festivals. We additionally examine the impact of coastal erosion caused by rising sea levels, hear how the charter market on China’s Hainan Island is booming, talk expansion plans with Sunreef founder and CEO Francis Lapp and Oceanco chairman Dr Mohammed Al Barwani, and round up the marinas across Asia servicing mega yachts.

In the meantime, we look forward to seeing you at the major boat shows ahead.
